Day 01: Arrival and welcome day in Nepal.
Namaste! Himalayan Planet Adventures welcomes you to Nepal. Upon your arrival at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport, a representative from our trek agency will greet you at the arrivals area and bring you to your hotel at the heart of the city. You will have enough time to check into your room and freshen up before being escorted to the Himalayan Planet Adventures head office. Here, our team will introduce you to your trek guide and provide you with a comprehensive briefing about your upcoming adventure: what to expect during the Everest Base Camp trek, safety precautions to keep in mind, and how to acclimatize properly at high altitudes. You will overnight at hotel.
(Airport & city transfers, deluxe hotel accommodation included in the package.)

Day 02: Visit World heritage sites inside Kathmandu
Shortly after breakfast at your hotel, you will be picked up for your full-day tour of historic Kathmandu Valley, which boasts of seven UNESCO World Heritage sites. For this particular tour, however, you will have enough time for three sites, namely: Pashupatinath, Boudhanath Stupa, and Bhaktapur. You also have the alternative to choose 3 other places of interest within Kathmandu Valley.

Situated on the banks of the Bagmati River, Pashupatinath is considered one of the world’s most sacred Hindu temples of the god Shiva. In this pilgrimage site, get the chance to witness the cremation of bodies along the holy river bank and observe Saddhus (holy men) as they conduct their solemn rituals. Next is Boudhanath Stupa, one of the most striking cultural symbols of Nepal and one of the holiest Hindu pilgrimage sites worldwide. It’s no surprise that Boudhanath often graces the cover of Nepal guidebooks and travel magazines and is on the top 5 must-see list of Kathmandu sites: the massive spherical stupa with its prayer wheels, hundreds of fluttering prayer flags, mesmerizing chanting from priests and devotees, and the surrounding charming shops and cafes make Boudhanath Stupa a popular choice for travelers everywhere.

After Boudhanath is a 25-minute drive to Swoyambhunath stupa also know as Monkey Temple for tourist where from you can see the whole Kathmandu Valley and sorrounding areas. After visiting here you will be brought back to your hotel in Kathmandu. You will have enough time to rest or do some last-minute shopping in preparation for tomorrows trek.
(Breakfast, deluxe hotel accommodation & day tour of Kathmandu included in the package.  Lunch cost to be shouldered by the traveler.)

Day 03: Trek start from Lukla, fly from Kathmandu to Lukla
Early morning check-out at your hotel and transfer to the domestic airport to catch the first flight out to Lukla (2,800m / 9,186ft) with your guide as companion. Marvel at the stunning views of the Himalayan mountain landscape during the 35-minute panoramic plane ride. Upon arrival in Lukla’s Tenzing - Hillary Airport, you will have a short tea break in a nearby teahouse as your guide and porter/s arrange and divide the baggage load. Today’s destination is Phakding, an easy 3 to 4 hour walk from Lukla which takes you the path. Expect a few uphill’s and suspension bridges before reaching your lunch stop, where you can enjoy views of Mount Kusum Kanguru (6,369 m / 20,890 ft) and its dramatic triple summit profile. After lunch, it’s a short climb to Ghat village followed by 1½ hours of gradual walking before reaching Phakding. Check in at your Phakding teahouse with enough time to rest or explore the village through scenic Sherpa farm villages, with the trail following the path of the famed milky-white Dudh-Koshi River. Beautiful Buddhist mani stones, prayer wheels and stupas greet you along the way as you climb up.
(Domestic flight, breakfast, lunch, dinner and teahouse accommodation included in the package.)

Day 04: Trekking to Namche Bazaar
Today’s 5 to 6 hours walk presents a bit of a challenge especially with steep, winding uphill in the last leg as your body adjusts to the altitude. However, the trek is totally manageable for as long as you avoid over pacing and acclimatize gradually. Do ensure you’ve had a good long rest the night before in order to prepare for today’s hike. In the morning, you will encounter some uphills and downhill’s and re-crossing of the Dudh-Kosi River over suspension bridges. The sight of nearby waterfalls and Mount Thamserku (6,608m / 21,675 ft) from a distance make this morning’s walk a delight in spite of the steepness of the path. By lunch time, we reach Monjo. Here, at the entrance of the Sagarmatha (Everest) National Park, your trekking permits will be inspected. As a safety measure, records of all trekkers—including local guides and porters—entering and exiting the park are monitored and kept. After lunch, we continue our trek with a gradual descent down onto the river bed and reach Jorsale village, the last settlement before reaching our destination for the day, Namche Bazaar. Traipse along the river bed before crossing a major suspension bridge over Imjatse River. By this time, we have embarked on the last leg of today’s hike — a series of uphill’s all the way to Namche Bazaar, the largest Sherpa settlement in the Khumbu region. Immerse yourself in spectacular views of Mount Kwangde in the east as well as the Himalayas’ great Everest and Lhotse as you climb ever higher. Throughout today’s trek and the succeeding days, you will encounter many of the local, friendly folk and the ubiquitous yak and jokepe — reliable beasts of burden that ply the route as far as Everest Base Camp and back. In the afternoon, you will finally reach Namche Bazaar, a picturesque patchwork of colorful houses and lodges all situated on the slopes of a hill with Mount Kongde Ri to the west.
(Breakfast, lunch, dinner and teahouse accommodation included in the package.)

Day 05: Acclimatization for high altitude
Allow your body to properly acclimatize by staying at the same altitude or by spending the day via exploring hilly Namche Bazaar and its nearby settlements. Keeping your body active today gives you better preparation for the days ahead. If your acclimatization at Namche happens to fall on market day (Saturday), mingle with the locals and observe the hustle and bustle of Sherpas doing their trading and shopping of goods. Your guide can also take you to the nearby Sherpa Museum which houses well-preserved Sherpa artifacts to give you insight on the locals’ traditions and way of life. The museum also contains a gallery of photos and documents marking milestones in Himalayan mountaineering history, including the first ascent to Everest. You also have the option to hike up to Everest View Hotel for a thrilling full-on view of the world’s tallest mountain before heading back to your Namche Bazaar lodge for the night.
(Breakfast, lunch, dinner and teahouse accommodation included in the package.)

    Day 06: Visit Thame village
Thame Village is situated at a slightly higher elevation from Namche Bazaar, thus giving you more opportunity to acclimatize. Today’s 4 to 5-hour walk offers a chance to spot Himalayan wildlife along the trail before you reach Thame Valley, historically known as part of an ancient trading route between Nepal, India and Tibet. Upon arrival at the little village of Thame, check in at your local teahouse before making the 45-minute climb to this area’s famed 400-year-old Buddhist monastery.
(Breakfast, lunch, dinner and teahouse accommodation included in the package.)

Day 07: Trekking to Khumjung village
Today is yet another easy-paced 4 to 5 hour walk from Thame down to Khumjung Village. We will pass through Thamo Village, cutting through lush mountain forests and reaching the biggest hospital facility this side of the Khumbu region—Khunde Hospital, which is managed by the Sir Edmund Hillary Foundation of Canada. By the end of today’s short trek, we will reach the charming little village of Khumjung and check in at your teahouse. For the rest of the afternoon, you can explore the area and even visit the Hillary School and Monastery set up by Sir Edmund Hillary back in 1961.
(Breakfast, lunch, dinner and teahouse accommodation included in the package.)

    Day 08: Trekking to Tengboche
Expect a gradual downhill walk in the morning with a breathtaking landscape as you go along. You will be surrounded by the majestic snow-capped peaks of Ama Dablam, Everest, Kwangde, Lhotse, Nuptse and Thamserku—a beautifully surreal tableau that one is hard-pressed to find anywhere except in Nepal. We continue with our descent to the Imjatse River and eventually reach the small settlement of Phungithanga.

From here, the trail switches uphill, cutting through a lovely path dotted with magnolia and birch trees, silver fir, blue pine and rhododendrons in full bloom. Same as in the previous days, this hike is around 4 to 5 hours long. In the early afternoon, you will reach Tengboche, easily considered as one of the most stunningly beautiful places in the Himalayas. It is a slice of green heaven on earth, embraced on all sides by Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and Lhotse Shar. Travelers everywhere stay in this tranquil village to rest and enjoy the postcard-pretty landscape graced by the peaceful presence of grazing yak and horses.Tengboche is also famous for its Tibetan Buddhist Monastery. If you arrive early enough, you will be able to catch the monks at their prayers and listen to their soothing, humming-like chanting.
(Breakfast, lunch, dinner and teahouse accommodation included in the package.)

Day 09: Walk up to Dingboche valley
This morning’s walk consists of a short descent to Deboche (3,650 m) situated amidst lush forest vegetation as the scent of juniper fills the crisp mountain air. Once you reach a long Buddhist prayer mani wall, the path turns into a gradual ascent to Pangboche village. Vast spaces of flat grassy lands greet you as you walk through the Imjatse Valley and reach Dingboche after this pleasant 4 to 5-hour walk. A lovely farming settlement protected from the icy mountain winds, Dingboche is popular amongst trekkers as this strategically sits at the crossroads heading off into various trekking paths including Everest Base Camp, Island Peak and the lush Makalu trail. From your teahouse room in Dingboche, savor the views of Ama Dablam, Lhotse and Nuptse, with Island Peak in the distance.
(Breakfast, lunch, dinner and teahouse accommodation included in the package.)

Day 10: Acclimatization & hike to view point
Having breached the 4,000-meter altitude mark in yesterday’s trek, you will be staying at Dingboche for an extra day to allow your body to acclimatize and gear up for the challenging days ahead as you get closer to Everest Base Camp. You have the option to rest at your Dingboche teahouse or you can ask your guide to take you out for a day hike (a highly recommended option for acclimatization purposes) to places such as Nagarjuna view point (5,010 m). You will notice how thin the air is getting as you make your way up gradually towards view point. Keep to an easy, modest pace. Treat yourself to views of snow-capped mountains as you return back to Dingboche Valley after about 2-3 hours of trekking. Enjoy the rest of your day.
(Breakfast, lunch, dinner and teahouse accommodation included in the package.)

    Day 11: walk to Lobuche
Today, we head further north, taking a path that goes gradually uphill for an hour. Then, we enjoy a pleasant walk on gentle, rolling grass lands with an enchanting top view of the village of Pheriche down below. After hiking on a narrow ridge and over a Rocky River bed, we reach Thukla, where we stop for lunch. Take time to rest and re-energize for the slight challenge that lies ahead: an hour’s climb up a steep hill, where more and more you will sense the thinning air. At the top of the hill, you can take a few minutes’ break and walk amongst the many memorials scattered around, built in honor of climbers who summited Everest and other mountains in the Khumbu region and have met their untimely deaths. These memorials make one realize the irresistible lure of the Himalayas--its harsh dramatic landscape, unyielding strength, and timeless beauty. After 5-6 hours of walking today, we reach the small settlement of Lobuche and draw ever closer to our main goal—Everest Base Camp.
(Breakfast, lunch, dinner and teahouse accommodation included in the package.)

    Day 12: Trekking to Gorekshep
From Lobuche, it is a 2-hour walk to Gorak Shep up a windy and rocky trail, with views of mountains such as Pumori and Nuptse and glimpses of Everest Base Camp and Kalapathar. At Gorak Shep, take a hearty lunch in preparation for the steep, 2-hour climb up to the top of Kala Patthar afterwards. Summiting this mountain is one of the highlights of your trek, as you will have a sweeping panoramic view of Everest and the surrounding Himalayan peaks as well as Everest Base Camp and the treacherous Khumbu icefall below. At 5,550 meters above sea level, the summit of Kalapathar is indeed the highest point in your 20-day journey. Take a moment’s break (as well as lots of photos!) to enjoy this major victory of yours before descending to Gorak Shep.
(Breakfast, lunch, dinner and teahouse accommodation included in the package.)

Day 13: Trek to Everest Base Camp
This is the day you’ve been waiting and preparing for. After an early breakfast at your Gorak Shep teahouse, we head off for a 2 to 3-hour trek towards Everest Base Camp. The trail is rocky, windy and quite challenging due to the thin air and high altitude. Do walk at an easy, relaxed pace in order to avoid acute mountain sickness. Ensure that you follow your guide, as the path from Gorak Shep to Base Camp changes every year due to the movement of glaciers over time. The landscape is barren yet dramatic as you pass over rocky dunes and along glaciers. Before you know it, you have reached the base of the world’s highest mountain—and the feeling of accomplishment is quite indescribable for every trekker that makes it to this place. Your memories of hiking up to Everest Base Camp will surely stay with you forever.

During the high expedition season (mid-April and May), Everest Base Camp is lively and humming with activity as mountaineers from different parts of the globe camp out here for weeks in preparation for their summit bid to Mount Everest (8,848 m / 29,029 ft). Take some time to capture your personal memories of Everest Base Camp and the nearby Khumbu Icefall on camera before heading back to Gorak Shep. We overnight at Gorak Shep teahouse.
(Breakfast, lunch, dinner and teahouse accommodation included in the package.)

Day 14: Trek from Gorak Shep down to Pheriche
Today is an easy 4 to 5-hour trek down to the village of Pheriche, where you will stay for the night.  It is best to start the walk early, to avoid getting exposed to chilly winds on vast, open grass lands. In Pheriche, you can visit at 3:00 pm onwards the Himalayan Rescue Association Clinic, a medical aid post set up by a voluntary non-profit group that aims to reduce Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) casualties in the Himalayan region. Pheriche is a picturesque village surrounded by pastures, mountains and gurgling streams and rivers. We overnight at your Pheriche teahouse.
(Breakfast, lunch, dinner and teahouse accommodation included in the package.)

Day 15: Trekking to Phortse Village via Pangboche
From Pheriche, you will only walk 2-3 hours today to reach Phortse, passing through the serene village of Pangboche.  While there are sporadic challenging stretches in the trail ahead, you will notice that as you head back down to lower elevations, more oxygen is filling up your lungs. You will be trekking faster and feeling much stronger. Staying in Phortse is a rare, beautiful experience, as this place is off the beaten path that majority of trekkers take. Drink in the sight of the Himalayan greats such as Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Lhotse Shar, Maccharmo & Kyajo Ri surrounding the village at all sides. From your room window at the teahouse, you may even catch a glimpse of the native Himalayan Musk Deer and Thar. We overnight at Phortse.
(Breakfast, lunch, dinner and teahouse accommodation included in the package.)

Day 16: Trek back to Namche Bazaar
Today, we do 5 to 6 hours of walking from Phortse back down to the lively Sherpa settlement of Namche Bazaar. We will pass through Phortsethanga and its forested paths and then over a wooden bride to cross the milky Dudh-Koshi River. From here, we trek up the steep hill of Mongla, with a rewarding view of Mount Everest and the surrounding Himalayan peaks.  We head onwards to Sanasa and then descend to Namche Bazaar. We overnight at Namche Bazaar teahouse.
(Breakfast, lunch, dinner and teahouse accommodation included in the package.)

Day 17: Returning back to Lukla
Expect a long 7 to 8-hour walk today—the final stretch before your return to Lukla. In the morning, you will be cutting through the small town of Monjo, and then stopping over at Phakding for lunch. You will be passing familiar beautiful mountain landscapes, waterfalls and the ever-present stupas and mani stone walls. As you descend, the trail becomes busier, with more porters, horses, jokepes and goats to encounter up and down the path. Finally, you will arrive at Lukla, the end of your unforgettable journey in the Himalayas. Check in at your teahouse as your guide re-confirms your flight back to Kathmandu the next day.  Celebrate with your crew over dinner and then overnight at Lukla teahouse.
(Breakfast, lunch, dinner and teahouse accommodation included in the package.)

Day 18: Flight back to Kathmandu
Our team in Himalayan Planet Adventures normally schedules your flight out of Lukla early in the morning, as the weather tends to be erratic later on in the day.  Sometimes, flights are delayed due to bad visibility and for other reasons beyond our control. (Breakfast, airport-to-hotel transfer, and deluxe hotel accommodation included in the package.)

Day 19: Leisure day at Kathmandu
You are free to spend the day in whatever way you wish to—whether it’s exploring the rest of Kathmandu Valley, doing some last-minute shopping in the bustling district of Thamel , or relaxing at your hotel. In the evening, we will host a farewell dinner for you at a restaurant in the city where you can share with us your trekking adventures up in the Himalayas. You will be transferred back to your hotel after dinner for your last night in Nepal. (Breakfast, farewell dinner, and deluxe hotel accommodation included in the package.)
